I am traveling from Modesto to LA airport, where does it snow on my route?
I will be driving on Monday night from Modesto, CA near Stockton, CA to Los Angeles, CA to the airport. I can either take 99S and then take I5 when they meet after passing Bakersfield, or I can take I5S from the very beginning. I am afraid that the road conditions will be very bad or that they will be closed due to snow. I cannot look up the wheater or driving conditions, because I don't know exactly where it snows. Can anyone help me with this problem?

There is no snow on either of those routes. It only snows in the mountains. There are mountains along the coast that sometimes get some snow, but not much, and it doesn't stay on the ground long. The real snow is in the Sierras, way to the east of where you're going. This time of year we get some rain, but even that is usually not serious. Both I5 and 99 go through the central valley, where it snows for a few minutes once in 25 years. The only place you -might- see snow is north of Los Angeles, in the low hills that are the northern boundary of the Los Angeles Basin. And even that is unlikely.

The elevation changes after the 5 and 99 merge.

The only BAD place is the Grapevine. Its was closed earlier this week with black ice. Check with the CHP about road conditions. Any big storm could close the Grapevine.

I 5 thru the grapevine... Remember: If its raining in Los angeles or Bakersfield ... IT'S SNOWING over the grapevine.. AND USUALLY the CHP closes the road until the storm passes and the Ice and snow melts/

Doesn't matter which one you start on, the 5 and 99 merge. No danger of snow until you get close to "the grapevine". If you look at the caltrans site (http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi), and type in "5", it will give you the current road conditions. You want to look for "grapevine", "Gorman", "Tejon Pass", or "Castaic". Here is a sample I just copied: A HIGH WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 MI NORTH OF THE JCT OF SR 126 /AT LAKE HUGHES ROAD/ (LOS ANGELES CO) TO THE LOS ANGELES/KERN CO LINE /THE GRAPEVINE/ - TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CAMPERS, TRAILERS OR PERMIT LOADS So that tells you the road is open, but there are high winds. If snow chains are required, it will say so.

The road does close due to weather conditions at the Grapevine. This is between Bakersfield and Santa Clarita Valley. With today's rain you are also very likely to hit major areas of fog. My brother lives in Turlock and the I live in LA. I've done both I-99 and I-5 drives. I think the 99 is MUCH better. Because it's mostly a 3 lane road instead of the 2 lanes and you are rarely completely in the middle of no where. My brother thinks the 5 is better - because you miss all the towns and he thinks it's faster. It's not - I've done both ways and it's almost exactly the same. If you are picking someone up or need to fly out, it would be a lot safer this weekend if you flew instead. You can fly from Sacramento, Merced, San Jose, Oakland, etc. Be safe!!

As others have said the only place you may encounter snow is crossing the Grapevine (between Bakersfield, and Los Angeles) I would suggest that just prior to departing you call the toll free 24 hour Caltrans Road Condition hot line at 1-800-427-6723. It will give you the most up to date road conditions. Then call again as you pass Bakersfield. Plan on a roughly 6 hour drive going the speed limit. If by chance I-5 is closed over the Grapevine you can always detour east in Hwy 58 to Mojave, then south on Hwy 14.

To those who live in areas modesto, stockton, Lodi, and sacramento...?
Please, please, please... Let me know if you guys know anywhere hiring. Due to the high unemployment rate, i am now under financial crisis. I have credit card bills, phone bills, car, school loan, family to take care of. If anyone can help. Please, please let me know here. Just some info about myself: I am 22 years old. I graduated from M.A program but its been hard for me to get a job as an MA due to low clinical experience. I've been working in retail for 3 years. I have my own transportation and can travel about 10-20 miles away from those cities i listed above. If anyone can help, i'm crying out for some help... Please! Do feel for what i'm going through. I will continue to look for jobs and hope some how, miraculously i'll find a job. Thank You for your understanding!

I am sorry you find yourself in this position. It seems the economy is crushing everywhere. First, call your credit card companies and car and school lenders to ask for some breathing time, maybe they will let you defer payment for a month or two. About finding a job.. Get on Craigslist and send your resumes daily. Go to the businesses that are still busy. Locally one Home Depot is hiring, but another just closed. You need to go to businesses with your resume in hand and ask if they might be hiring. Another local business I know who just hired is a local doctor's office. You didn't mention the field of expertise for your education. Look into businesses in your field. Look harder. Be deligent.

About My situation...I live outside of Stockton, Ca and grandchildren live in Missouri
My situation...I live outside of Stockton, Ca and grandchildren live in Missouri?
I am trying to discover a way to get them for a couple of weeks this summer.ages 5 & 7 . The problem is logistics. Travel will apparently take most of the funds I have saved to take them to Disneyland. Until earlier this evening I had assumed I would have to fly back pick them up then fly them home. Have heard a smidget about the possibilty of them being able to fly without an adult. My question, has someone got a better idea or knowledge of this possibility. Already ruled out my daughters help with $$ or time she is single and student. don't want to drive cross country by myself, The train is a much longer trip and almost as expensive. Please dont tell me I should have set aside more cash...I figured that out myself. Just looking for some helpful advise......I promised they could come.

About Should I go to Rutgers or Stockton
Should I go to Rutgers or Stockton?
Hi I'm going to graduate with my Associate's Degree in Dec. I have a 3.5 GPA right now and I'm a NJ STAR if that changes anything for those of you don't know basically I don't pay tuition for the state school that I choose. I want to pursue a degree in psychology and will probably end up getting my master's or even my doctorates depending on what exactly I want to do with that. I know that Rutgers is a widely known university compared to Stockton but I've heard a lot of horror stories about Rutgers about how large the classes are, how much time you spend on a bus traveling to different buildings for your classes, how the professors barely speak English etc. I haven't heard anything bad about Stockton but if you do know please tell me. I just want to make the right choice because I will end up getting an apartment in the end. So what do you guys think which college in the end is better? I was thinking of becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. I think you only need a Master's degree for that.

well since pets are not allowed on trains or buses you will have to either drive or fly amtrak and greyhound do not allow pets on-board unless they are service animal but there is only airline that flight to stockton (allegent from las vegas or long beach yet they don't start flying there till july 1st! so i guess your only option to drive..

by train: it will take over two days. Take an Empire Service train or the Maple Leaf to Buffalo, then connect onto the Lakeshore Limited to Chicago. From Chicago, take a connection onto the Southwest Chief to Stockton. If you plan on taking the trip in coach, it will cost around $300-400 per person one-way at the very minimum. It's a loooong trip, so get comfy!

In June, my Brother is having abig party in Moab, Utah for his birthday and wedding anniversary. My husband, daughter , her husband and 2 granchildren are all going and want to rent an inexpensive RV to travel and camp out in. We will be gone for about a week , leaving from either Stockton, CA or San Francisco, CA. This wwould be the week of Junne 17th. Any suggestions/ Or any one in the SF Bay Area who wants to rent their RV?

Does anyone know of a reputable English Bulldog breeder in the Central Valley, California?
I'm looking for a bulldog breeder around the area of Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, etc but I'm ready to travel to anywhere in northern CA... I'm looking for a new puppy, but by no means does it need to have "Show" potential or Championed bloodlines, I just don't want to support puppy mills. I would just like a healthy, good-looking bully for my family. Thanks for the help! p.s. I've already seen bulldogbreeders.net

When will the package arrive to me?
I ordered my I phone on Friday (27th of May) at about 6 P.M and I checked FedEx and the estimated delivery time is the 1st of June, but on shipment travel history it says that it is already in Oakland, CA. Do you think it will get to Stockton, CA by tomorrow? Today is the 30th of May and tomorrow will be the 31st of may.

It will probably arrive in your local Stockton post office tomorrow and then go out on the truck to be delivered on June 1.

Nope. They never deliver early. Even if it gets to your local dispatch ahead of time, it will sit there until the schedule delivery day. You could schedule a pickup though if you don't want to wait.

About Are there any leather working trainers in California
Are there any leather working trainers in California?
You know, just for the basics. I'm not trying to become a master leather worker or anything, but I'd like to learn enough to tan hides, make simple clothes, make accessories like a knife sheath or something. Greater San Francisco Bay Area hopefully, but I'm willing to travel all the way up to Sacramento or down to Monterrey or over to Stockton if I need to.

Stockton, California?
There's this one city in California, sometimes my friends and I travel through it or stop sometimes. However, whenever I go there, I notice the lack of quality people. They look like a bunch of bums, for example, Stockton is full of illegal Mexicans too. It looked like a third world country, at least in many parts. Why is this?

stockton has always looked like that to be honest. Always been filled with mexicans too, that area had mexicans when it was mexico. My grandfather worked the fields out there after vietam. I have yet to see a picture of it looking good.

I think the same could be said about every city. They have their better parts to go along with the worser parts. Even Stockton has better areas.

There are a lot of blur collar jobs there that require getting dirty. That also makes everything around the city hard to keep clean.
