About Help needed regarding ear cropping

Help needed regarding ear cropping.
Where can I get my pit bull puppies ears cropped for a reasonable price, I live in Stockton and could travel about 1 hour to a vet. I was going to make an appointment at Rosemarie Pet Hospital in Stockton but I want to check out other places before I make my final decision. I would like to know the cost for ear cropping, ointment, pain relievers, gauze wrap, and what would you recommend. I heard it is was okay to use any gauze and ointment from pharmacies. But I do need to get the pain pills of course from the Vet. Should I keep them in a kennel until they stop bleeding? How do I train their ears to stand? Should I have the Vet take out the stitches or is it possible to carefully do it myself? Any help is appreciated. By the way, I'm making an appointment ahead of time, they are only 7 weeks old. They already had their first set of shots and their distemper shot. P.S I am evil, I'm cruel, I'm insane, I shouldn't have dogs, blah blah. Don't bother. I take excellent care of all my pets, I am asking simple questions regarding them. Edit: I'm not a breeder, I just bought them both. :)

Wow all of this just to mutilate your dog's ears. oh yeah cutting your dogs ears for no reason is "excellent" pet care

Just don't crop the ears and if you really have to let your vet do it and follow his instructions on what to do after wards.

When you get them cropped they will be wrapped up so that they will stand up anyway. You can use just normal antiseptic ointment from the store as long as you use the vet pain meds! I would just check around local vets and try contacting local breeders of pits, rotties, great danes...ect. to find out where their dog's ear's get clipped. Good luck!

I cannot advise you about a vet since I am not in your area. I can tell you that once the procedure is done (no, actually I don't condone it but they are NOT MY DOGS so it's not my business) that you should use the vet pain killers but you can probably use pharmacy ointment and gauze (unless they develop a problem...then post-haste to the vet!!!). I have heard that may show people actually use tampons in the dogs ears to make them stand up until they start to do it on their own. Insert tampon, wrap wuth gauze and tape with medical tape.... GOod luck... Just out of curiosity...since you bred these pups (from the sound of it), are they all "sold" already with cropped ears??? Or are you hoping to sell them??? Some people might actually like the soft-eared look. Personally, I do .... I am just asking so don't get in an uproar, ok??? I also prefer boxers and dobies with full ears....that's just me!

i have two pits myself, and no its not evil or cruel to crop their ears, BUT with the dogs ears clipped they are at more risk of getting infections and viruses that could complicate your dogs health. From personal experience i would not recommend it. On the other hand though i would recommend getting their tails clipped, that is something i wish i would have done when they were younger because their tails (though cute now) WILL turn into whips and forget leaving anything that can spill on the coffee table, not to mention they hurt like hell when they hit your shins.

Alls I have to say is shame on you. Oh, and yes you are a poor dog owner if you think you HAVE to CHOP off your poor dog's ears! Shame shame shame.

The price of cropping is going to vary from area to area. Don't try to cut cost on cropping. Call breeders in your area who's dogs have a good crop and ask them who does their crop. Cropping isn't taught in Vet school and is an art form in a way. A bad crop can ruin a dogs appearance so you want someone who knows how to fit the crop to the dog and the breed. Yes you will need to get pain meds from the vet. The vet should tell you how to treat the ears until the stitches are removed, and the puppy shouldn't be bleeding by the time you get it back from the vet. Yes you need to take the puppy back to the vet to have stitches removed, never preform medical procedure on your own. The ears should not be posted until the stitches are removed. Here is a site that describes a couple of posting methods http://www.geocities.com/kandiyohi_boxers/eartaping.html but I would recommend having an experience breeder of a cropped breed show you how to do it properly. Again don't cut corners on the crop and don't crop if you aren't going to take the time to post until they stand. No crop is better than a bad crop or a flopped crop both of which can ruin the appearance of a dog

Mutilation. Ya' know, that's wonderful pet care. How about you have your ears cut and then you can figure out if you want it done on your dogs. Stop being selfish, get some testicles and leave your ears natural.

YES, IT IS CRUEL TO CROP THEIR EARS. WHO WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO SAY, 'HEY LET'S CUT THE EARS OFF THAT DOG'? HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOMEONE HELD YOU DOWN AND MADE YOU LOOK LIKE MR SPOCK. AND WHILE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT STRAGE THINGS TO DO TO ANIMALS, WHO WAS THE FIRST PERSON WHO SAID,' LET'S EAT THE NEXT THING THAT COMES OUT OF THAT CHICKENS BUTT"? JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE, YEARS AGO ,THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY TO CHOP UP A DOG, DOESN'T MEAN WE HAVE TO BE CRUEL ALSO. I CONSIDER MY ANIMALS PART OF THE FAMILY, AND I WOULD'NT CUT UP MY FAMILY. AND YOU SAY YOU TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF THEM. WHAT PART OF CUTTING THEIR EARS OFF IS DEFINED AS "EXCELLENT CARE'?
